Later Youth shares new single ‘The Wave’ ahead of headline show at London’s The Social

Later Youth, the recording name of multi-instrumentalist, producer and serial collaborator Jo Dudderidge, today reveals his new single ‘The Wave’. With a driving, krautrock feel, the track blends themes of nostalgia, emotional disorientation, and unresolved feelings.

“It’s about that unnerving moment you unexpectedly cross paths with someone from your past—a former lover or someone who still holds some emotional weight”, comments Jo, “You see them on your street, in your world, and it throws you, but it’s also a strange opportunity to reflect. That feeling of: what happened in all the time since we last spoke? Who have we become?”

‘The Wave’ was the first song Jo wrote in this new incarnation and contains the lyric that inspired the artist name:
“I miss those darling days,
My later youth’s not been so brave”

It follows previous singles ‘Arcane Love’, ‘Nuclear Love’ and ‘Enabler’, all featured on Later Youth’s upcoming debut album ‘Living History’ released 4th July via Sideways Saloon.

On the album itself, Dudderidge expands, “Writing and performing songs can be a bit like historical reenactment – the further you move away from the person you used to be, the harder it becomes to separate fact from fiction. After years of moving around I suddenly found myself standing still. In that moment I was able to look back clearly enough to see this particular period of my life for what it was.”

Recording the album has been both a cathartic and a celebratory process. “The songs on the album flip between a eulogy and an elegy to this not-so-distant past”, Dudderidge continues.
