LIDL IN WIMBLEDON TO CLOSE FOR REFURBISHMENT WORKS
Lidl GB has confirmed that construction on the modernisation and extension of the existing supermarket on Plough Lane, Wimbledon, has started, which will see a significant improvement to the customer experience.
In order for the next stage of the refurbishment works to take place, the store will be closed from 5pm on Sunday 9th January, with a view to reopening in late Spring 2022. Customers can continue to have access to the supermarket’s fresh, quality and great value produce at its nearby stores on Upper Tooting Road and London Road in Tooting, and The Tandem Centre, Colliers Wood.
The works at the Wimbledon store will deliver an increase in sales area to 1,656 m2, giving the local community access to even more of Lidl’s fresh, quality and affordable produce as well as delivering an enhanced instore experience.
Store colleagues currently working at the supermarket will be reassigned to nearby Lidl stores until work is complete.
Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Henry Neel, commented: “We’re extremely excited to be able to not only refurbish, but extend our Wimbledon store, so that we may bring the local community an even greater selection of our much-loved products and an improved shopping experience instore. We are grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter the next stages of the development.”
The refurbishment forms part of the company’s ongoing £1.3bn investment across the country in 2021 and 2022. Its ongoing success shows no signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results highlighting Lidl’s increase in sales year on year and market share of 6.4%.
