Liz Truss will ensure UK has ‘invigorating economy’, says Nadine Dorries

CULTURE secretary Nadine Dorries has claimed that Liz Truss is best placed to take over as the new Tory leader as she has “fresh” ideas to invigorate the economy.

She told GB News: “What we need on September 5 Is somebody who has fresh, invigorating, stimulating ideas and an approach to the economy, I think that’s what Liz is offering.

“She is not somebody who buys into the Treasury orthodoxy. She is someone who thinks economically outside the box.

“She understands the value of putting money into people’s pockets and you achieve that one of the ways to achieve that is with those groups of people who work hard and are taxed hard that the best way to stimulate the economy is to put money back into their pockets.

“She understands that raising corporation tax to 25% is not the way you encourage investments or innovation or reward those entrepreneurs who create wealth and create jobs.

“Liz gets all that and that’s one of the reasons why for me, she’s the person I want to see on 5 September.”

Speaking during an interview on Breakfast with Stephen Dixon and Rosie Wright on GB News, she added: ”

Asked if her policies would increase inflation, she said: “She’s talking about a Covid debt that it equates to what we had during the war…borrowing over a much longer period of time.

“Covid had a massive economic impact on the country. It was an economic tremor that hit us, hit the world.

And what Liz is saying is that we need a different approach to deal with that. Business as usual, borrowing as usual, isn’t going to fix it.

“We need to look at the debt we’ve taken on to deal with Covid in the same way that we looked at the debt that we incurred in fighting the Second World War, and that’s thinking outside the box, that’s looking at a different way of both servicing and managing debt.

“That in itself will negate any problems that we have in terms of inflationary increases and that’s what I like about this. She’s refreshing.

“She’s not selling the same old story that we’ve got one of the highest tax rates…

“This isn’t talking about business as usual. She’s talking about making this country a place that has an invigorating economy and a place where people want to invest and stay and her ideas are exciting and I think that’s the reason why she will be best placed to help people with the that those economic tremors that will come our way in the future and help people deal with and address the cost of living crisis and I know that she is the right person to do that.”

Earlier, MP Victoria Atkins told GB News that Rishi Sunak was the best candidate to tackle inflation: “Curbing inflation, getting a grip on inflation is the number one priority for Rishi because it is inflation that is driving these prices.

“Inflation is driving the prices up, this is what inflation is and so that’s why it’s so critical that we get a grip on inflation and, by the way, this is happening across the world.

“We see we’ve seen the news in the states overnight about the rise in interest rates there, this is happening across the world, these are global pressures.

“Rishi has already demonstrated the measures he has taken you can take to help people and there will be more as we go through.

“One thing people cannot take away from Rishi is that throughout the pandemic, he showed his willingness to both listen but analyse the situation and then act quickly.”
