Local education leaders brave 33°C heat for vulnerable children

On the hottest day of the year so far – with temperatures hitting 33°C – a group of local education leaders completed a gruelling 26-mile ‘Maritime marathon’ along the Thames Path to raise funds for the Maritime Children’s Foundation.

Led by Susan Matheson, COO of Maritime Academy Trust and CEO of the foundation, the team powered through sweltering heat and zero shade during a ten-hour trek from Greenwich to Ebbsfleet – a symbolic route connecting the Trust’s first and newest schools.

Their hard work is a testament to what our education community is doing outside the classroom to transform young lives. The walk has already raised £4,500 and counting, supporting free initiatives like the Saturday Skills Academy, where children can enjoy arts and sports that build confidence and wellbeing.
