London-based franchise wins top prize at the 2024 BFA HSBC UK British Franchise Awards

London-based children’s maths educator Mathnasium UK, with a head office in Wandsworth and locations across the city, has been crowned the Franchisor of the Year (Expanding) at the 2024 BFA HSBC UK British Franchise Awards.

The awards, the ‘Oscars’ of the franchising world, were held at a glittering black-tie event at the Telford International Centre, in Shropshire.

With their tag line of ‘Discover Your Tomorrow’, the BFA is widely recognised as the UK’s self-regulatory body for franchising. The results of their latest national survey in October, revealed that the sector contributes £19.1 billion to the UK economy and has a failure rate of just 0.5%. They also saw a 53% growth in the ‘Personal Services’ sector which includes brands such as Mathnasium.

Founded in 2002, Mathnasium is an international brand with their UK head office based in London, and centres in Clapham, Blackheath, Wimbledon, Belsize Park, Fulham, Notting Hill, Richmond, Chiswick, Ealing, Barnet, South Kensington, Whetstone, Winchmore Hill, St Albans, Stanmore, Muswell Hill, Crouch End, Harrow, Twickenham, South Woodford and Dulwich.
They have over 1,100 learning centres across the world, used by more than a million parents. They were franchised in the UK in 2018 and now have 18 franchisees operating 28 locations, helping children from four to 16 catch up and get ahead with maths, in a way that makes sense to them.
On winning the one of the top awards in franchising, UK director John Preston said: “This award has been a goal for the team for four years and to achieve it is testament to the passion, dedication and drive of both our Head Office and the Franchisee Network combined. We are privileged to have such a strong product in the market that is changing the trajectory of children’s lives.”
Pip Wilkins, Chief Executive of the BFA said: “This is such a great win for Mathnasium who have brought self-employment opportunities to so many through their successful franchise model. The judges were very impressed by their entry, despite being up against some very stiff competition. We thank them for their hard work and dedication and for being great ambassadors for ethical business format franchising in the UK today.”

UK Head of Franchise at sponsors HSBC UK Gillian Morris said: “Judging the awards is always so hard, but I am forever impressed by the calibre of entries we receive and the achievements of the winners. It was a pleasure to attend the awards this evening and I am glad to report that the UK franchise sector is a buoyant and successful place to do business, and I send my huge congratulations to all the winners.”
