London dry-cleaning start-up launches e-bike deliveries for faster, greener service

Laundryheap – the world’s leading on-demand laundry and dry-cleaning service – is adding green e-bike deliveries to its fleet, to provide customers with a faster and more eco-friendly service.

The new offering aims to address the issue of delays caused by traffic in congested areas like Central London, whilst lowering the company’s carbon footprint amidst global environmental efforts to address climate change.

First launching for a trial period in London, the bikes will later be rolled out across Laundryheap’s international markets, which include New York, Dubai, San Francisco and Singapore.

The e-bikes – which are entirely bespoke – also aim to address the concerns that certain areas in Central London – which are often unreachable by car, or fall into London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) – cause traditional van deliveries to take longer and be more polluting. For example, according to researchers at the University of Leeds’ Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions, e-bikes have the capability to slash carbon dioxide emissions from transport by up to 50%, equating to around 30 million tonnes saved a year. Laundryheap hopes their new delivery service sets a new gold standard for other on-demand delivery businesses operating in large cities.

Having launched in 2014 in London, Laundryheap enables customers to have their laundry collected, washed, and delivered back to them in a guaranteed 24 hours. In the wake of the pandemic and environmental concerns, the app also allows customers to opt for contactless collection and delivery, and a green travel route for all of their delivery drivers.

Speaking on the launch, Laundryheap CEO Deyan Dimitrov comments:

“We are delighted to introduce the new e-bikes to our delivery fleet. As leaders in our field, and a company delivering thousands of items of clothing a day, we have a responsibility to ensure that our business is as green as possible, and continues to keep customers safe amidst the pandemic. We’ve offered our customers the option of a green travel route for some time, and are thrilled to be taking our next steps as a fully committed, environmentally conscious business.

“We anticipate that the new delivery service will enable us to reach even more people and are proud to help ease London’s load during these uncertain times.”
