London is the city with the most judgmental house guests, according to research conducted by luxury bathroom suppliers Sanctuary Bathrooms.

84% of those living in the capital said they judge people on the look of their home, with 49% confessing to a secret snoop around. Over half (55%) also admitted to looking up the price of a house belonging to someone they know.

Cardiff is second behind London. Appearance matters in the Welsh capital with 91% saying they would judge someone on how their home looks. Scotland’s entry, Glasgow, came in third. 64% of Glaswegians judge people on the contents of their home, with 34% saying they have had a snoop.

The research, conducted by bathroom suppliers Sanctuary Bathrooms, questioned 2,000 people across 16 UK cities on how judgmental they are when it comes to other people’s homes.

The 16 cities were ranked on the following four factors:

• % who would judge someone for the appearance of their home
• % who would judge someone for the contents of their home
• % who have gone snooping around someone’s home
• % who have looked up the price of someone’s home

The average ranking for each was used to reveal the top 10 most judgmental cities in the UK:

1. London: 1.25
2. Cardiff: 3
3. Glasgow: 5
4. Edinburgh: 5.75

The study found that over four in five (85%) Brits would judge someone on their home. Key factors were appearance, location and smell, but by far the biggest issue for Brits was cleanliness. 61% said they would judge someone for how clean their house was.

The most judgmental cities for appearance behind Cardiff (91%) and London (84%), were Norwich and Edinburgh (both 83%). With Scotland and the South East topping the rankings.

Almost two thirds of Brits would judge someone over possessions or the contents of their home (64%) with the top three cities, London (72%), Cardiff (71%) and Sheffield (70%), all proving above the average across the UK.
