RUNNING is the most popular sporting activity in the UK, new Decathlon research has revealed. The research also revealed where we can expect to find the next Mo Farrah or Keely Hodgkinson. The Decathlon Activity Index shows that London is a clear frontrunner , with 39% saying they run or jog. This is a far greater proportion than even the second and third place West Midlands (25%) and North West (24%).

Delving deeper into running trends amongst different genders and generations, it was revealed that nearly half (48%) of younger women aged 18-24 years old enjoy running the most, while it was found to be most popular amongst men aged 25-34 (39%).

The research also found that men are more likely to carry on running into middle and older age, while for women it is much more concentrated amongst younger age groups.

In addition, kids aged 4-7 (38%) are also reaping the benefits of this exercise as it was revealed to be most popular amongst this primary school age group of kids.

The research has been released amongst Decathlon UK’s participation in the National Running Show, which was held at the NEC in Birmingham on 22nd – 23rd January 2022.

As part of the show, Decathlon hosted an exclusive challenge, which saw attendees trying to keep up with Olympian Andy Baddeley and see how long they could match his running speed.
