London is the UK’s top thrift shopping city, new study reveals
London has been crowned the UK’s best city for thrift shopping, a new study by Betway reveals.
Using data from Yelp, the team took the populous cities around the world and searched the number of thrift shops, vintage shops, charity shops, flea markets, and car boot sales in each city. These were then combined to give a total figure.
London takes the top spot as the UK’s most thrifty city, with a combined total of 262. This includes 240 thrift, vintage, and charity shops, and 22 flea markets and car boot sales.
With iconic designers like Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood, London has rightfully earned its place as one of the world’s leading fashion capitals. Not only that, the city has previously been ranked the most sustainable city in the world.
Not to mention, the city boasts the world-famous Camden markets, which attracts over 27 million visitors annually.

Once you’ve exhausted all the vintage gems in London, next on the list as the UK’s second most thrifty city is Liverpool. With 240 thrift, vintage, and charity shops, and 1 flea market/car boot sale, Liverpool has a combined total of 241.
Liverpool is famous for its iconic music scene which gave the world The Beatles, who defined the psychedelic, peace, and love movement of the 60s. Fashion became more flamboyant with bright colours, floral shirts, and velvet jackets, which you might now find hidden away in one of the many vintage shops across the city.
Coming in at third place is Birmingham with an impressive total of 217. Other cities that feature in the top 10 list include Glasgow, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, Leeds, Cardiff, and Belfast.
