London is the UK’s “Wellbeing” Capital, According to New Study

London has been crowned as the best location in the UK to improve your wellbeing, according to a new study from the team at Private Rehab Clinic Delamere.

Taking into account 10 different factors including each location’s quality of life, the number of wellness retreats, yoga studios, exercise clubs and the quality of life in each place, the team were able to determine the best locations to live across the UK for those looking to improve their mental wellbeing.

Surprisingly, despite being the bustling capital city of the UK, it was London topped the list with a total score of 84.9 out of a possible 100. According to the study, people living in the area have access to a huge 309 yoga studios, 224 wellness retreats and 371 exercise clubs, which can help prioritise mental wellbeing.

Not only that, but the city also recorded 260 mental health care providers, which contributed to its overall score.

Following closely behind in second place with a score of 71.4 out of a possible 100 was Norwich. People in the East-Anglian city were among those in the UK most satisfied with their quality of life, with the location scoring an impressive 7.1/10 for that category.

Completing the top three was Newcastle with a score of 70.2 out of 100.

Dr Catherine Carney, Psychiatrist at Delamere has explained why positive well-being in the UK is important and what impact poor wellness can have on addiction:

“Positive well-being is hugely important, but very often overlooked. This can be due to many factors, such as being overworked, trying to maintain a social life, and toxic hustle culture – to name just a few.

“Declining well-being throughout the UK is also likely to have an impact on addiction rates, as drugs and alcohol are commonly used for escapism purposes, as well as to help people de-stress and relax.

“This is why harnessing wellness techniques and prioritising mental well-being is crucial, as so many people may feel they are too far into their addiction to find other coping mechanisms.”
