London Lates Return to London Transport Museum
After an unforgettable summer for meeting friends outside for a picnic in the park or possibly for a drink outside a bar, the nights are starting to draw in. Autumn socialising often means we have to turn our attention to proceedings inside. While we still have Halloween and Bonfire Night with firework spectaculars to look forward to, it can feel as though there are endless dark evenings to fill with the same old activities. However, with London being the city it is, there is no need to be bored or just fall back into a routine. There are so many new places to explore. For example, the London Transport Museum has recently announced that it is bringing back its late-night openings with a series of special events to entice visitors.
A Celebration of Transport
While many Londoners have to travel on the tube, busses and overground trains daily, it is easy to forget to celebrate the sheer ingenuity of the network. From the iconic tube map to the distinctive tiling of many early tube stations, the transport network is more than just a transport hub. Pragmatic Play has even made an online slot dedicated to its history. The game Down The Rails celebrates the London Tube and can be played at various casinos with no deposit bonus offers in the UK. This allows you to start playing without having to use your own money.
What is a ‘Late’ and the London Transport Museum?
The events at The London Transport Museum welcome visitors on selected Friday evenings after hours. Open only to adults; they get to explore the museum, enjoy a drink, learn from expert speakers and take part in fun activities. Different events are linked to the museum’s collections or temporary exhibitions. In addition, there is a packed program of talks, workshops and activities from which to choose. So whether you are a transport geek or just looking for an alternative night out, the lates have loads on offer.
The Elizabeth Line Late
The Elizabeth Line Late takes place on Friday 21st October, and the event is a celebration of the opening of London’s new high-speed rail link. It is open to over eighteens, but there will be plenty of nostalgic games and creative activities hosted by costumed characters from each of the decades of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. Visitors can revisit their youth with hopscotch, snakes and ladders and balloon modelling. You can also have a go at building your own railway station or test your knowledge in a fun pub-style quiz.
The more serious visitors can learn about the development of the line and even try ‘driving’ an Elizabeth line train in the simulator. Because it is a simulator, you can even have a drink while you are driving the train. Enjoy purple cocktails from a blueberry margarita or Kir Royale. There will be wine, craft beers and soft drinks at the bar and commemorative merchandise on sale.
The Electric Late
The Electric Late will be on Friday 11th November and will be a night of interactive science experiments, talks and creative workshops. So drink in hand, you will be able to explore the museum’s galleries and discover how electricity has shaped London’s transport system. In the early days of electrical travel, there were fantastical futuristic inventions. However, the oyster card revolution or today’s contactless terminals were no less impressive. Find out more about how electricity sparked art and design in the system and the vision for the future.
Visitors can try their hands at coding or get creative in The Electric Play Zone. A dynamic electronic soundtrack will play, and themed drinks will be available throughout the night.
The Permission To Play Late
This event is taking place on February 24th 2023. Permission To Play is an opportunity to unleash the big kid in you. Play transport bingo and take part in a museum-wide scavenger hunt. While it will all be tremendous fun, there will be experts to explain the importance of continuing to play, even when we are grown-ups.
More information on all the events listed and ticket prices can be found on the museum’s website, ltmuseum.co.uk.
