Love Island Londoners looking for love (and money) in Mallorca
The reality TV sensation Love Island is back on our screens this month and London is represented among the contestants entering the villa on day one.
Amber Beckford, a 24-year-old nanny, and 23-year-old waitress Indiyah Polack will fly the flag for the capital city at the start of this summer’s series.
They will hope to be able to emulate the success of last year’s winner, Romford native Millie Court, who took home the grand prize of £50,000 alongside partner Liam Reardon.
Almost 2.5 million viewers tuned in to last year’s curtain raiser despite the fact that it clashed with the Euro 2020 football tournament, so TV execs will be hoping and expecting a healthy boost on that figure for this season’s opener.
It’s not just TV executives that get excited about shows like Love Island, though – their huge pull presents great opportunities for other industries too.
For example, bookmakers do not exactly relish a summer without a major men’s football tournament but the super popular reality show gives them the chance to offer bets on a number of markets.
According to the Love Island betting experts at My Betting Sites, the latest odds suggest Gemma Owen, daughter of former Liverpool and England footballer Michael Owen, is favourite to be this season’s Top Female.
This year’s iteration of Love Island also looks set to give second-hand clothing stores a welcome boost thanks to its partnership with eBay.
Usually, the contestants are clad in brand new kit from all manner of fast fashion brands but this year they’ll be sporting the very best in second-hand clothing sourced from the leading e-commerce site.
