Majestic doubles up in Dulwich as it toasts new store opening

Majestic, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, has opened the doors to its second store in Dulwich, making it even easier and more convenient for local customers to discover and buy new wines, beers and spirits.

The 3,900 sq ft store on East Dulwich Road stocks Majestic’s full award-winning range of more than 1,200 wines – including a dedicated area for 72 Fine Wines – plus beers, spirits, low and no alcohol alternatives, soft drinks and snacks.

The new store sits on the edge of Goose Green, in close proximity to Dulwich Leisure Centre and just a stone’s throw from the popular Lordship Lane, home to retailers and cafes including M&S Foodhall and Gail’s bakery.

Majestic’s experienced and qualified colleagues will host free wine tastings seven days a week from the in-store Tasting Counter, offering customers the opportunity to try a selection of wines before they buy, receive tasting notes and get expert advice.

Shoppers will benefit from services including free glass hire for occasions such as weddings and birthday parties, and Majestic’s unique ‘No Quibble Guarantee’, which allows customers to return any wines they don’t like in exchange for a bottle of equivalent value.

Customers can shop from Majestic’s full range of more than 1,500 wines by ordering online for free next-day delivery via the store’s own electric van. Online shoppers can also make use of Majestic’s unique ‘Shop Local’ proposition, which allows customers to browse and order from the stock available at the East Dulwich store, in real-time, for click and collect within as little as four hours.

The new store will also support Majestic’s rapidly growing B2B division, Majestic Commercial, supplying wines to gastropubs, bars and restaurants in the local area.

East Dulwich marks the second store opening of Majestic’s financial year, following its launch in Jersey in April. The retailer will also throw open its doors in Brentwood, Essex, this Thursday as it ramps up its bricks-and-mortar expansion plans. Majestic aims to open an average of one new store per month in the coming years, including sites in Solihull, Wimborne Minster, Plymouth and Christchurch before Christmas.

The ambitious growth strategy underscores the renewed focus Majestic has placed on experiential retail and hospitality offerings since its split from Naked Wines plc in 2019. Since then, following the reintroduction of former management and with the backing of investor Fortress Investment Group, Majestic has opened 18 new stores and returned to growth and stability.

In January, Majestic toasted the best Christmas trading performance in its 43-year history as more than 63,000 new customers shopped with the retailer for the first time during the holiday season. In April, Majestic completed the acquisition of Vagabond Wines out of administration, saving nine wine bars and 171 jobs.

Majestic CEO John Colley said: “We already serve thousands of discerning wine lovers in and around Dulwich so we are incredibly excited to be opening a second store here, making it even easier and more convenient for local people to shop with us in-store or online.

“Whether you’re celebrating with a bottle of fizz, or stocking up on rose and beer for your summer BBQ, our expert Majestic colleagues will help you discover wines, beers and spirits you will love, whatever your occasion, taste or budget.”
