Mecca reveals luckiest areas and £150 million prize money total for 2020
Whilst 2020 was not an easy year for anyone, Mecca Bingo made it a little brighter by giving away a mega £153,583,710 in prize money throughout the year across its 76 clubs and online games – higher than even Ed Sheeran’s net worth.
The lockdowns didn’t stop the nation’s love of all things bingo, with over £96 million won online at Meccabingo.com alone. And, despite so many weeks of temporary closures, Mecca clubs made dreams come true by handing out over £57 million to players across the country, including 16 winners scooping the big National Game £50,000 jackpots.
Despite being closed for 22 weeks of the year due to Government guidelines, Stockton came out on top as Mecca’s luckiest club, where winning bingo players scooped a share of £2,356,029 in prize money. On Meccabingo.com, players in London proved the most successful, racking in a staggering £29,361,397, with other lucky cities for online jackpots including Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham.
Catherine Warrilow, Head of PR & Content at Mecca Bingo, said: “Revealing that we have handed out such a life-changing amount of money during an equally life-changing year has been an amazing way to kick off 2021 at Mecca Bingo. Our loyal community has continued to give each other (and us!) endless support in such a trying time, so we’re thrilled to give something back to them.
“Although our clubs remain temporarily closed, the bingo goes on at Meccabingo.com, and we can’t wait to welcome back lucky dabbers through our doors when we’re able to reopen.”
