Mischievous Surrey cat named Mr August in charity calendar

Attention-loving Draco is sitting pretty after being picked as Mr August in Cats Protection’s charity wall calendar for 2021.

Nine-year-old Draco had been in Cats Protection’s care for some months and was suffering from an eye infection before he was finally well enough to be rehomed by the charity’s adoption centre in Haslemere, Surrey. Before long he was spotted by Clare Parker and her family.

Clare said: “We were looking for a younger cat but Draco adopted us straight away. There wasn’t any question in it; he decided that he was coming home with us. He arrived on the morning of our daughter’s first day at primary school and he was stretched out owning the sofa by the time she came home.

“Draco has been part of the family for over five years now. He is playful, mischievous and loves attention. He has a friend to share his home with, too; Merlin, a black cat we also adopted from Cats Protection. We’re a family.”

Clare, who recently moved to East Yorkshire from Farnham in Surrey, believes Draco’s new-found fame is well deserved as he is a real fine feline with plenty of character.

She said: “Over the summer we moved to Flamborough near Bridlington and both Draco and Merlin have settled in to their new home extremely well. Everyone who sees him thinks Draco is extremely handsome. And Merlin is quite a looker, too. We’re proud to share our home with Mr August.”

Cats Protection’s wall calendar showcases cats adopted through the UK’s largest feline charity’s network of adoption centres and volunteer-run branches. The £5 calendar is sold online via https://www.catsprotectionshop.co.uk/.

The calendar helps the charity to raise much-needed funds for cats and kittens who are looking for new homes. Fundraising has been a significant casualty of COVID-19 restrictions and Cats Protection is only able to continue its work thanks to the financial generosity of its supporters.
