Museum of Youth Culture announce new Central London pop up store
Museum of Youth Culture announces its new Central London location at 154-156 Shaftesbury Avenue from Thursday 9th December 2021 for 3 months.
Taking over a stunning new premises in the heart of London’s West End for a Christmas residency, the Museum of Youth Culture will be transforming its two floors into a multi-media exhibition space and Christmas shop featuring their famous Subculture Bookshop – all dedicated to the incredible creativity of British youth culture.
A multi-purposed event space, the ever changing pop-up is programmed to host subcultural talks, live music, films, a photographic exhibition, gallery and entertainment area bringing the archival content to life with special cutting edge guests and speakers who are immersed in the scene and will be taking over the gallery.
The Museum of Youth Culture will be chockablock with carefully designed eco-friendly, nostalgic gifts, produced in the UK including subculture books, t-shirts, posters and mugs using images from their extensive photography archive of era defining moments.
Pride of place and hot off the press will be the nationwide photo album ‘Grown Up in Britain’ – a brand new book created from thousands of treasured photographs, ticket stubs, pin badges etc that were submitted by the general public throughout lockdown. Designed like a patchwork quilt of collective memories, ‘Grown Up in Britain’ travels page-by-page through the common themes that bring us all together. In addition to these exciting Christmas happenings, the Save the Museum of Youth Culture Crowdfunder has now officially launched, providing a vital opportunity to become a member and support the grassroots Museum to take over 154-156 Shaftesbury Ave long term as their permanent home in London. The Museum has launched a crowdfunder to put them in the position to take on the space long term beyond the current 3 month lease – which will give youth culture a permanent home, and support the running costs of the world’s first permanent Museum of Youth Culture! Founder of Museum of Youth Culture, Jon Swinstead comments ‘ This is a great opportunity for us to have a permanent home in London and help people understand the influence and importance of youth culture on society.
