Muslim Aid Calls on UK Parties to Tackle Cost of Living, Climate Change, Refugees, and Global Crises

Leading UK charity, Muslim Aid has announced its manifesto ahead of the upcoming general election urging all parties to commit to supporting climate change initiatives, improving refugee integration including scrapping Rwanda plans, committing funds to help the growing number of global humanitarian crises and countering the cost-of-living crisis in the UK.

The charity has outlined its request in a detailed report published today which outlines the following:

Cost of Living

Muslim Aid demands robust policies to combat poverty, homelessness, and food insecurity in the UK. Despite a slight decrease in inflation, the cost-of-living crisis continues to hurt millions, especially in deprived Muslim communities. The charity’s vision for 2024 and beyond includes community-informed strategies targeting the eradication of UK poverty within ten years.

Climate Change

The charity has outlined how parties can commit to fighting climate change including committing to allocating funds and restructuring to include a detailed plan to support green development and encourage sustainable projects in the UK and abroad.

Refugee Crisis

Muslim Aid is urging parties to work towards improving refugee integration, resettlement policies, and the scrapping of the Rwanda plan, ensuring alignment with the 1951 Refugee Convention. It outlines the need for better migration policies, improved housing, healthcare access, education, and upskilling workshops for refugees.

Global Humanitarian Needs

The charity seeks the restoration of the Official Development Assistance to 0.7% of Gross National Income, emphasising the need to support global humanitarian efforts. It also highlights the increasing number of global emergencies, often climate-related, that demand immediate and sustained attention.

Muslim Aid CEO, Khalid Javid commented, “We urge all parties to adopt these essential measures to create a more just and sustainable world. Addressing these critical issues is not just a moral imperative but essential for the well-being of our national society and the global community.

The election is the perfect opportunity for these important issues to be addressed which is why we are urging all parties to ensure they are a key part of their manifesto.”

Muslim Aid was established in the UK in 1985 and is a faith-based British charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters or conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, discrimination, homelessness, debt, unemployment, injustice, or economic deprivation in the UK and globally.
