Muslim Aid to facilitate UK Qurbani to poor families across the country
Leading UK charity Muslim Aid is proud to announce its launch of providing Qurbani meat in the across the country in its latest bid of Serving Humanity at home.
Qurbani, also known as Udhiyah, is the Islamic practice of animal sacrifice performed during Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice. This festival commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God, before God provided a ram to sacrifice instead.
The Qurbani meat will support those in low-income households, foodbank users, the homeless, and refugees and asylum seekers.
Targeted cities are:
London
Loughborough
Birmingham
Leicester
Glasgow
While Muslim Aid known for helping millions across the world, the British charity also has a strong track record of Serving Humanity at home in the UK.
Over the years, Muslim Aid’s UK programmes have included food distributions, supporting food banks, UK winter campaigns, and supporting vulnerable people with draft-proofing initiatives. We also responded to the 2015 UK floods, delivered a UK prisoner support programme, and supported newly arrived and existing refugees.
Muslim Aid responded to the tragic Grenfell fire in West London, being one of the first charities on site distributing food, water and clothing. Our response cumulated in the production of a report titled ‘Mind The Gap’ which reviewed and assessed the voluntary sector’s response to the tragedy.
More recently, Muslim Aid was one of the first charities to respond to Storm Henk in Leicester and carried out a national Feed The Fasting campaign during Ramadan.
Abu Akeem, Muslim Aid’s Head of International Programmes says:
“In the context of the UK, Qurbani has significant implications for vulnerable people, particularly in terms of providing relief from the hardships associated with the cost of living. it helps provide essential food supplies to low-income families and individuals, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals.”
Qurbani plays a crucial role in supporting vulnerable populations in the UK by providing food, fostering community spirit, and contributing to economic support systems. Through the collaborative efforts of individuals and charitable organisations, Qurbani helps mitigate the challenges associated with the cost of living, ensuring that the spirit of sacrifice and compassion positively impacts those who need it most.”
