National Beer Day: London Airports are Second Priciest for a Pre-Flight Pint

Edinburgh Airport is stinging thirsty travellers with Britain’s most expensive airport pint, new research has revealed.

Beer-loving flyers at the Scottish airport’s Sir Walter Scott Wetherspoons pub are forking out a wallet-busting £6.90 for an average lager. The study by QR Code Generator compared prices at the closest Wetherspoons pubs near major UK airports ahead of National Beer Day on June 15th.

The prices are according to the official Wetherspoons app, and were calculated across five draught lagers: Carling, Corona Extra, Poretti, Stella Artois, and Budweiser.

Edinburgh tops the pricey pint chart despite offering just eight draught lager options – the smallest selection of any airport Wetherspoons. A pint of Guinness there will set you back the same eye-watering £6.90.

London’s major airports claim the next three spots in the expensive beer league. Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted all charge an identical £6.76 for an average pint. The five Wetherspoons across these three airports – The Red Lion, The Beehive, The Flying Horse, The Crown Rivers and The Windmill – stick to the same pricing.

Rounding off the top five is Birmingham Airport’s Wetherspoon, charging £6.51 for an average pint. Guinness drinkers pay £6.60 – slightly less than London and Edinburgh’s £6.90.

Prices drop dramatically at Belfast International Airport. The Bridge House charges just £4.25 for an average pint – a whopping 38% less than Birmingham. Guinness costs £4.29, far cheaper than at the top five airports.

Bucking the expensive London trend, Luton’s The White House charges a more reasonable £3.85 for an average pint. This creates a massive £2.91 price gap between Luton and other London airports – showing huge variations even within the capital’s airports.

Bristol, Glasgow and Leeds Bradford share eighth place, all charging exactly £3.71 for an average pint. These three locations have identical prices for Guinness (£3.60) and most standard lagers.

Glasgow’s Last Post boasts the widest selection with 11 different draught lagers on tap – the most generous offering of any airport Wetherspoons. This variety makes Edinburgh’s limited selection seem even worse value.

Manchester Airport’s The Unicorn also charges £3.71 for an average pint, matching several other northern airports. The figures show a clear north-south price divide, with northern airports generally serving much cheaper drinks.
