This International Women’s Month, the Women Writers Festival returns to Etcetera Theatre in Camden for a month-long celebration of bold, original voices by women and female-identifying playwrights, including the edge-of-your-seat solo show “Natty Takes a Breath” – 18th and 19th March.
About “Natty Takes a Breath”
“Natty Takes a Breath” is a gripping, one-woman performance set inside a casting room, where an actress enters an audition expecting a straightforward professional exchange. As she responds to notes and adjustments, the encounter becomes distorted and the language of the room shifts. That’s when performance becomes survival. The audience is embedded in this narrowing space, experiencing every pause and recalibration. Each breath becomes the difference between holding it together and completely losing it.
Sara Amanda, the Writer and Director says: “Black women’s stories are often compressed or overlooked. Showcasing Natty Takes a Breath at the Women’s Writers Festival, among so many other incredible pieces of work, is my way of giving a voice where we’re taught to endure in silence”

Based at The Etcetera Theatre in Camden each year, The Women Writers Festival is a bold response to the underrepresentation of women playwrights in the UK. Since 2023, it has grown into the golden platform for celebrating diversity and the power of women’s storytelling, showing original, underrepresented voices through monologues, spoken word and experimental work. This year sees approx 58 shows and 107 performances, including panel discussions and live poetry on demand by audience request.
