Naughty or Nice? NoMad Hotel Launches Nostalgia Inspired Pop Up… With A Mischievous Twist
On November 16th, Common Decency – the latest world-class cocktail bar from a team behind the world’s best bars, led by Leo Robitschek and Liana Oster – will launch its inaugural festive pop-up Holiday Spectacular. The six-week-long subterranean Christmas extravaganza is a celebration of nostalgia featuring a playful menu of cocktails deliciously designed to take you back to Christmases gone by, alongside spontaneous surprises and entertainment hosted by legendary London drag queen, Maxi More.
The cocktail menu is composed of riffs on quintessential festive foods that no Christmas is complete without, such as mince pies, candy cane, roasted chestnuts and gingerbread. Each ingredient will be interpreted in two unique creations where you can choose to be Naughty… or Nice. For those really going all-out (and why not), the Cocktail Explosions menu of oversized, shareable concoctions are expertly crafted, show stoppingly presented, and sure to start fireworks.
Honouring NoMad’s trademark brand of bespoke hospitality and dedication to fun, entertainer Maxi More will be on hand to get guests in the festive spirit with spontaneous surprises and entertainment on any given night, alongside a ‘holiday disco’ soundtrack provided by some of the capital’s best party starting DJs, including Bestley and Joshua James.
Cocktail menu highlights include Not The Buttons, made with Jameson Black Barrel, Chivas 15yr, lemon, gingerbread gardenia, Palo Cortado Sherry, and maple, and served alongside a gingerbread man and icing for guests to garnish; Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel, which blends Bourbon, yellow chartreuse, Punt E Mes, Dolin Blanc Vermouth, coconut, chocolate and salt; and the Candy Cane Colada made with a combination of Pernod Absinthe, pineapple, lime, coconut, Branca Menta, Crème De Menthe and Candy Cane
The Cocktail Explosions are expertly crafted show stoppers made for the table, including Santa’s Little Helpers, combining Absolut Elyx Vodka, Lustau Fino Sherry, Passion fruit, vanilla, lime, Perrier-Jouët, Barbies and Christmas gnomes. Dasher Dancer Prancer combines Japanese Whiskey, Rye, falernum, vanilla, orgeat, lime, and garnished with Reindeers. View the full menu here
Tins of Christmas biscuits and Leo’s legendary bottled eggnog, made with Bourbon rum, cognac, Scotch, egg, cream, nutmeg and cinnamon will be available to-go for guests to take away and continue the festivities at home
The new bar, plush with sumptuous banquettes and velveteen chairs, will be decked out with beautiful holiday decor to match. For even more intimate gatherings, Common Decency’s three ‘snugs,’ located in the building’s old coal sheds, are bookable for 6-12 guests.
Robitschek opened and conceptualised the bar program at NoMad New York, which was heavily credited as one of the most influential in the world. He and his team have been the recipients of numerous awards such as Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Award, the James Beard Award for Outstanding Bar Program, and placed #4 on the list of the World’s Best Bars. Bar Director Liana Oster joined the opening team of NoMad London from New York’s Dante where she led the team as Head Bartender when it was named World’s Best Bar by both Tales of the Cocktail’s Spirited Awards and the World’s 50 Best Bars list in the same year. The duo launched Common Decency within the NoMad London Hotel in September of this year.
Drawing upon hyper-seasonality, community, and a sense of place, Common Decency carries the NoMad brand’s concept of duality by connecting the two very different personalities of London’s West and East Ends in a setting that playfully honours its history – as the Police Station where Oscar Wilde was held for his so-called sins.
