NEW MONOPOLY INSPIRED IMMERSIVE RESTAURANT & COCKTAIL BAR TO LAUNCH IN LONDON’S WEST END
THE TOP HAT is a brand new 70-cover restaurant and 47-cover cocktail bar inspired by the timeless classic MONOPOLY game. The elegant new space will launch in London’s West End on 14th August 2021 and be a playful homage to the London version of the game. It will serve a ‘quintessentially British’ small plates menu alongside cocktails inspired by the city’s historic narratives. Guests will be able to order a deck of ‘MONOPOLY Deal’ with their cocktails to engage in a quick-playing card version of the game whilst they drink, whilst curious diners will appreciate the 100s of tiny top hats hidden within the bespoke wallpaper.
COCKTAILS
THE TOP HAT’s signature cocktail menu has been crafted to feature some of the world’s most premium spirits and ingredients, echoing the game’s playful pursuit of success. Each cocktail has been designed to represent the iconic properties of London fashioned around their respective historic narratives. The London links will range from the familiar e.g Leicester Square – Red Carpet Daiquiri, inspired by its reputation for film premiers, to the more surprising trivia, with Trafalgar Square’s Lychee & Rose Pearl Martini, inspired by the original London Pearly King road sweep whose memorial statue can be found beneath Trafalgar Square.
Signature highlights will include The Mayfair Royal Sours; a Laurent Perrier Brut Cuvee Champagne Syrup, Courvoisier VSOP and edible gold cocktail garnished with a sugar £50 note and The Whitehall, a Cherry and Vanilla Old Fashioned served with a smoking cinnamon stick, inspired by Winston Churchill who chaired the war room cabinet based in Whitehall and was known for his love of ‘whisky and a cigar.’
Euston Road’s cocktail will pay homage to the NHS, inspired by the first women’s hospital entirely staffed by women, garnished with a ‘Thank you NHS note’ and a £2 donation from every sale going directly to a chosen NHS charity. Non-alcoholic cocktail serves will also be available and follow the same attention to detail and include the Marlborough Street – SOHO Forest Jamtini; made with non-alcoholic aperitif, Aecorn Dry and inspired by the area’s history as a former hunting game forest.
FOOD
The menu will be a ‘quintessentially British small plates concept’, championing ingredients from the British countryside and sea as well as showcasing hyper-local produce such as London cured charcuterie. Diners will be able to choose a selection of miniature versions of hearty classics such as The Top Hat Roast (Rump Steak, Parsnip Mash & Mini Yorkshire Pudding) Stuffed Pork Belly & Apple Sauce, Wye Valley Lamb with Minted Jus and Fish & Chips allowing guests an opportunity to enjoy all their British favourites in one meal. Desserts will continue sharing theme and include nostalgic puddings such as Sutton Farm Orchard Crumble, Lemonade Meringue Pie with Whipped Soured Cream and English Strawberries & Cream Eton Mess.
For those looking for MONOPOLY gameplay on a bigger scale, THE TOP HAT will sit alongside MONOPOLY Lifesized – an exciting new participatory gameplay attraction that launches at the same time and will bring the game to life in a live 4D immersive experience across life-sized boards.
“So many of us have fond memories of playing the iconic game, be it with grandparents in our childhood or over drinks with friends in our adult lives. The Top Hat’s convivial dining concept was conceived to encourage people to come together again, for what we hope will be a delicious nostalgic trip down memory lane.
For some, the London version of the boardgame was also their first ever experience of the capital. We’re excited to be to be part of the journey as London slowly comes back to life and to be opening a hospitality venture that celebrates the city and its wonderfully rich heritage. We can’t wait to welcome Londoners, and in time visitors from further afield.” Joseph R Smith, Director of F&B, The Top Hat.
