Award-winning housebuilder, The Hill Group, has partnered with Chestnuts Primary School in North London to launch a vital health and safety campaign. The initiative took place at North Gate Park, located directly opposite the school in Harringay. Through this collaboration, Hill aims to educate children about the potential dangers of construction sites and promote greater awareness of safety in their local environment.
Hill is hosting a tailored series of health and safety presentations delivered to pupils at the school throughout October. To help engage the children, the event features interactive construction-themed games, followed by a ‘Meet the Diggers’ experience on site at North Gate Park. The Hill Group’s much-loved mascot Billy the Bear was in attendance to demonstrate the rules that must be observed around building sites. The children also received specially prepared goodie bags to mark the occasion.
Rebecca Littler, Group Sales and Marketing Director at The Hill Group, comments: “While construction sites can appear exciting to children, they are full of hidden dangers that can have serious consequences. As a housebuilder dedicated to putting health and safety first, we make it a priority to educate local communities. Thank you to headteacher Mrs Horwood for helping us to raise awareness of the importance of site safety. We are grateful to all the children of Chestnuts Primary School who took part, for bringing such great energy and focus to the sessions.”
Mrs Katie Horwood, Headteacher at Chestnuts Primary School, adds: “We are so grateful to Hill for giving the children the opportunity to learn about site safety. They really enjoyed the construction-themed activities and the chance to ‘meet the digger,’ while learning important safety messages. This valuable initiative showed how safety around construction sites can be taught in a fun and engaging way.”
In efforts to promote site safety among children, The Hill Group offers a Site Safety Booklet reinforcing the importance of safety around construction sites.
North Gate Park is a collection of stylish one to four-bedroom homes, created in partnership with Peabody, located near Green Lanes in Harringay, one of North London’s most vibrant areas.
At the heart of the development lies Mulberry Gardens, a beautifully reimagined green space that has tripled in size from its original 1920s footprint. It retains mature trees from the historic layout while introducing extensive planting, open lawns, and a welcoming playpark. Across North Gate Park, green spaces and pathways have been sensitively designed around existing trees, creating a seamless connection to nature and a sense of calm throughout the community.
Beyond the campaign, further activities are planned with the school, including a Name the Block competition hosted at Chestnuts Primary School, giving children the chance to win a selection of gift vouchers.
As part of Hill’s wider commitment to community engagement, a Kindness Shop event was also held on site on 5 November. The activity was planned to coincide with World Kindness Day (13 November) and saw a range of gifts given out to local families in need, such as toiletries and toys, as well as board games and children’s clothing – in exchange for a pledge of kindness, such as helping an elderly neighbour or looking out for someone else in need.
