Nostalgic British School Puddings Make a Delicious Comeback in Soho

A deliciously nostalgic trend is sweeping through London this spring, as What’s for Pud? opens its first store location on Lexington Street, Soho, reimagining classic British school puddings with a contemporary twist.

Already a hit with both tourists and locals, What’s for Pud? offers an indulgent menu of traditional favourites—elevated for modern tastes.

The concept was developed by Executive Pastry Chef Mohamed Dadabhoy, trained by Le Cordon Bleu, and formerly of Fallow, London. The menu boasts a suite of delectable desserts to get your taste-buds tingling. Combining comforting familiarity with creative flair, delivering a joyful experience, evocative of school days passed.

Recaptured dessert highlights include:

Decadent Chocolate Fudge Pudding – Rich, gooey, and utterly irresistible – offering spoonful’s of joy which includes a chocolate crumble, cake and custard

Spiced Apple Crumble – Served warm with a generous pour of silky vanilla custard—a comforting embrace in a pot

Cardamom Rice Pudding – Slow-cooked in cardamom-infused milk, topped with house-made strawberry sauce and a malt & honey puffed rice crumb for extra texture and crunch

Mr Whippy-inspired cold desserts are also a favourite during the warm weather with each having a unique twist on the childhood ice-cream favourite. The frothing matcha latte is proving to be another popular new entry to the list of hot beverages available at Lexington Street.

Lucky customers visiting What’s for Pud? may even get the chance to sample new flavours before they officially hit the menu with fresh desserts being developed and refined on site. The range is constantly evolving with a focus on taste, sustainability and nostalgia.

Ingredients are sourced locally supporting local businesses where possible and are carefully selected for their quality and versatility with waste kept to a minimum. Once the strawberry sauce has been made, the remaining pulp is dehydrated to create a scrumptious strawberry dust. This is all about sustainability. Similarly spent coffee grounds are repurposed into delicious ‘Tira Miss You’ cookies

Minesh Solanki, co-founder of What’s for Pud? said “We’re thrilled with the feedback we’re receiving from customers trying our dishes. People are regularly buying several desserts at once because they just can’t choose between them!
“We’re excited to expand our menu through the summer with creative twists on nostalgic favourites, and we really encourage you to come and try them — they’re every bit as delicious as they look on our Instagram feed. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding!”

With plans for further eateries and exciting pop-ups across London this summer, What’s for Pud? is set to become the go-to destination for dessert lovers across the city.
