NOWCA’s Dock2Dock Open Water Swimming Event Celebrating 10 Iconic Years
London’s most iconic swim event will once again give open water swimmers the chance to swim the historical London Royal Docks. This is not just any swim meet, it’s a unique experience where participants will be swimming alongside the London City Airport runway while planes are actively taking off and landing.
With five core distances’ 1.5k, 3k, 5k, 10k, EPIC 15k – and to celebrate the event’s 10th anniversary –a special 20k feature swim, all distances have very generous swim cut-off times.
The Benefits of Open Water Swimming, And Getting Back to Nature
Dock2Dock is an inclusive event and suitable for every ability. With research by plant-based food brand Squeaky Bean revealing eight in ten Brits (81 percent) long to get back to nature and spend more time outside, it’s the perfect chance to get outdoors this summer.
New research by Squeaky Bean reveals as many as 55 percent* of those surveyed say screens are making them feel anxious and depressed, so it’s no surprise many as seven in ten (71 percent) of us will be trying to enjoy a digital detox and get back to nature this summer.
The survey also revealed a host of activities for the perfect screen-free summer, with park picnics (43 percent), hikes in the countryside (28 percent), and wild swimming (26 percent) topping the list.
Overall, 84 percent of those surveyed want to spend less time in the digital world and more time in the real one, while 31 percent will even try to have a completely screen free holiday.
43 percent say they feel excited about doing things which scare them, while 31 percent feel a real buzz from doing something out of their comfort zone.
When it comes to what is holding Brits back from being more adventurous, lack of time came top (43 percent). Work commitments (28 percent), being afraid to try something new (20 percent) and family commitments (28 percent) are other barriers to living life to the full.
Squeaky Bean & Dock2Dock
Squeaky Bean is collaborating with Dock2Dock, with a ‘chill-out’ picnic style garden area at the event, serving up wildly delicious plant-based foods to fuel swimmers and spectators.
Giveaways will include complimentary plant-based pastrami-style bagels, focaccia with tofu slices, chicken tikka-style wraps, and VLT sandwiches made with crispy bacon style strips, tomato, vegan mayo and lettuces.
Katie Atkin, Brand Manager at Squeaky Bean said;
“Squeaky Bean’s is all about being daring and embracing the wild in the kitchen and beyond. We are satisfying appetites in the kitchen, but also for the great outdoors and nature, with delicious plant-based food.”
“82% of us will be making a concerted effort to have a digital detox this summer, trying new activities with their likeminded community, to support physical and mental wellbeing.
“Brits are more focussed than ever, with 82% planning to improve their diet or health to help live life to the full, and almost a third (32%) are increasing their intake of plant-based proteins – to help fuel activities like wild swimming.”
“While 97% of people told us being in nature makes them happy, we’re encouraging people to get outside and dare to try something new, like wild swimming. That’s why we’re supporting NOWCA’s Dock2Dock open water swimming event.”
