OLLY ALEXANDER PUTS ON SURPRISE PERFORMANCE AT ST PANCRAS WITH DOPPLEGANGER
Today, the capital was seeing double after an impromptu live busking performance by not one, but two of Olly Alexander – British pop sensation and It’s a Sin Star.
This comes as research by Twix reveals that 2 in 5 Brits are fascinated by doppelgangers, with 78% saying they’d love to meet their own. The study follows the launch of Twix’s latest platform, ‘Two is more than one,’ which nods to its classic two bar serving – because Twix gives you a good thing twice.
The prospect of having a double is particularly exciting for Gen-Z, who say it would make their life more fun (89%), ‘twice as nice’ (76%) or even help them cause ‘double the trouble’ (31%).
The popstar shocked his clone by gate-crashing their gig at St Pancras International station, inspiring a spontaneous double act performance for excited passers-by.
The lookalike was the UK’s popular Olly Alexander tribute, ‘Starstruck’, also known as Keith Marshall, who normally tours festivals and events throughout the UK.
After kicking off what he believed to be a solo busking performance, he’d made it halfway through the iconic Years & Years hit, Desire, when OG Olly revealed himself on stage to ‘double’ everyone’s fun.
Singer and Actor, Olly Alexander, said: “It was nice being able to perform with my wonderful doppelganger Keith. Why have one of something when you can have two? Hope the crowd had as much fun as I did!”
Alongside the fun bits, Gen Z also feel having a clone would help with their productivity. In fact, over half (59%) feel they’d get more done, as they have too many responsibilities (36%), not enough hours in the day (38%) and procrastination (33%) are stopping them from living life to the full.
If given the chance, they would put their double to work on the tasks they’d rather avoid, including:
Cleaning the house (39%) and washing dishes (36%)
Attending work meetings on their behalf (33%) or even doing full shifts (36%)
Waiting in queues (31%) and handling deliveries (25%)
Avoiding small talk (29%) and attending social events in their place (26%)
Though it’s not all work and no play, Gen Z say nights out would be better with a clone (49%), as would holidays (47%) and road trips (41%).
And the fascination with doubles doesn’t stop at wishful thinking. As technology advances, 71% of Gen Z say they’d be open to using AI to create their perfect clone, compared with 53% of Millennials and 27% of Gen X.
Lauren Godfrey, Senior Brand Manager from Twix said: “In a world where time is precious, having a clone would be the ultimate life hack. While we may not have doubles of ourselves just yet, we’re pleased to have doubled the fun for many of the public today. It’s important to make time for little treats amongst the day to day.”
