Over 800 £0.57 Sandwiches on Sale as Heinz Mayo Opens the UK’s First Ever Sandwich Automat to Celebrate Britain’s Favourite Lunch

Heinz Mayo is bringing a new twist to the lunchtime run with the launch of the Heinz Mayo AutoMayoMat: the UK’s only sandwich automat, arriving first in London. Designed to celebrate the nation’s enduring love affair with sandwiches, Heinz is on a mission to bring back the lunch hour with Heinz Mayo with over 800 £0.57 sandwiches for sale.

Popping up first in Soho on 17th and 18th June to coincide with National Picnic Week, the immersive self-serve vending experience will offer a menu of freshly made sandwiches inspired by classic British favourites, all generously layered with Heinz Mayo.

The first automat arrives in the UK as the sandwich continues to reign as one of our most-loved meals, with this sandwich-loving island consuming an estimated 11.5 billion sandwiches every year* (that’s around 380 every second!) – cementing the sandwich as a true staple of everyday life and British culture.

Yet despite Britain’s enduring love affair with sandwiches, the lunch break itself is disappearing. Busy schedules, desk dining and meals squeezed between meetings have become the norm, with over half of Brits admitting they never properly take a lunch break**. Heinz Mayo recognised both the nation’s appetite for a really good sandwich and the feeling that nobody has time to properly enjoy one anymore – and so, the Heinz Mayo AutoMayoMat was born.

Designed to bring a little joy back to lunchtime, the self-serve experience combines convenience, seriously good mayo-packed sandwiches and a moment actually worth stepping away from your desk for. Whether grabbed on the go or taken straight to the park for a picnic during National Picnic Week, the Heinz Mayo AutoMayoMat is here to remind the nation that sometimes, the best lunches are the ones you actually take the time to savour.

Originally invented in Berlin in 1895, the Heinz AutoMayoMat was inspired by the convenience culture of European automats where baguettes and even oysters are dispensed in Paris. Influenced too by Japanese 7/11s and their impressive sando prowess, Heinz has reimagined the automat through a distinctly British lens, and taps into growing demand for nostalgic food experiences, elevated comfort food and the everyday joy of a really good sandwich.

Guests will be able to enjoy jam-packed select sandwiches from cult-favourite, Sandwich Sandwich, freshly prepped especially for the Heinz AutoMayoMat. Purchased and dispensed directly from individual self-serve compartments, sandwiches come with a personalised engraved lunchbox, tote and a bottle of classic Heinz Seriously Good Mayo, of course, ready for you to enjoy your very own picnic moment away from your desk.

Whether enjoyed on the move, between meetings or taken straight to the park for a sun-soaked lunch during National Picnic Week, the experience has been designed to celebrate the simple pleasure of taking a proper lunch break, with a proper sandwich, packed with seriously good mayo. Because sometimes, the best thing since sliced bread isn’t just the sandwich itself, it’s taking a moment to properly savour it.
