OVER HALF IN LONDON ADMIT COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS IS MORE EXCITING THAN THE BIG DAY!
A festive survey of 2,000 UK residents, commissioned by sweet brand HARIBO, has found that well over half (63%) of those questioned in London admit that the countdown to Christmas is more exciting than the big day!
That’s more than any other region in the country and 11% ahead of the national average!
While this fact may shock the fluffy socks off Santa Claus, the reasons behind the findings are enough to warm even the coldest of hearts.
With so much to look forward to, 15% have confirmed they put up their decorations in November, while a further 37% cannot wait any longer than the first week in December to deck the halls.
It comes as no surprise when asked at what point they start to get excited by Christmas, 44% said on Decorating Day (when families choose to decorate the home), 30% when Christmas songs come on the radio; 32% when buying gifts; 33% when watching Christmas lights switch-on and 30% when Christmas treats are sold in the supermarket.
The seasonal sentiment doesn’t stop there, with 68% of households, more than any other region and 10% more than the national average, agreeing that they put up the Christmas decorations together.
Making the most of the occasion, a further 55% play Christmas songs, 43% put on a festive film in the background, 35% share tasty treats around the tree, while 26% order in takeaway food.
However, it’s not all seasonal smiles in the South, as 69% also admitted that they feel there is too much pressure to have the perfect Christmas, with 31% saying they are looking forward to simpler pleasures this year, such as spending time with family and friends.
HARIBO Marketing Manager, Harriet Hogge, comments: “While the thought of enjoying the festive countdown more than Christmas day may come as a seasonal shock to some, we can’t blame people for wanting to start the celebrations early!
“However, there are still 31% of households that leave just one person to do all of the decorating alone and we want to change that!
“It’s clear from our findings that Decorating Day is different for everyone! The beauty being that however, and whenever, you choose to deck your halls, it’s the perfect chance to release the childlike happiness in all of us and to simply have a good time together!”
HARIBO, the UK’s leading sweet manufacturer, will focus on Decorating Day during its 2022 Christmas Campaign, encouraging families throughout the country to come together and have some fun.
Reiterating that the countdown to Christmas is more enjoyable when shared, the brand will support the campaign with activations, sponsorship, PR and social media content in the run up to the festive occasion.
