In light of National Careers Week (7th to 12th March), a Senior Site Manager at David Wilson Homes in Bodicote has lifted the lid on the benefits of a career in construction.

Having worked his way through the ranks from a grassroots level, Paul Moore (40), from Hagley in Worcestershire, has now been with the leading developer for nine years and is now based at the Bodicote development, The Pavilions.

Setting the bar for those looking to take up a career in the industry, Paul is a prime example of someone who’s ensured there are no limits to what can be achieved in the sector.

He said: “I started out as a painter on David Wilson Homes’ developments and pestered Harry (Construction Director) for a job every time he was on site!

“It’s changed both my life and me as a person, and has helped me raise a family I can provide for. I love my job.”

Among the highlights of Paul’s career was being named a winner in the National House Building Council’s (NHBC) Seal of Excellence awards in 2017, in addition to his triumph in winning a regional award in 2019.

Following his stint as a painter with the five star housebuilder, he went on to become an Assistant Site Manager and worked his way up. Having admitted he had his eye on a Project Manager role at this stage in his career, his new goal has provided even more motivation to progress.

Paul continued: “My advice for anyone starting out in the industry would be to ask questions. It’s the only way you learn, stay focused and give it your all daily. Your team around you is everything so it really helps for everyone to expand their skills together.”
