OXO Tower hosts pop-up print exhibition with Too Good To Go to raise awareness of food waste

Available to view from today until the end of August, the iconic OXO Tower Restaurant, Bar and Brasserie is hosting a pop-exhibition showcasing 14 exclusive prints from European artists, designed to raise awareness of food waste and how it’s impacting our environment.

Launched by surplus food app and B Corp, Too Good To Go, the series of limited edition prints have been designed by 14 of Europe’s most exciting rising artists and are available to purchase at www.toogoodtogo.co.uk/posters for £11 each. 100% of the profits are being donated to the UN World Food Programme – the world’s largest organisation addressing hunger and food insecurity.

This project has been launched in response to the fact that globally, food waste causes more greenhouse gas emissions than the aviation industry, and that the majority of this food waste is happening right at home (in the UK specifically, 70% of all food waste takes place within households – source). Each of these 14 exclusive illustrations is designed to artistically highlight the connection between food waste and our environment in a bid to inspire the food waste fight at home.

And to embody this cause, the posters are printed on Crush paper, made from 15% agro-industrial by-products (crushed food waste) instead of tree cellulose.

Among the 14 prints available are works designed by exciting artists across Europe including Danish creative duo, Supermercat; SEEYOUSIOE from Amsterdam; and rising French illustrator Lorraine Sorlet. In the UK, rising Liverpool-based illustrator, Rosa Kusabbi – who is already known for her art activism and campaigns for social and climate justice – has produced her own exclusive print for this project (pictured to the right).

Too Good To Go Co-Founder Jamie Crummie explained the inspiration: “This project is about harnessing the power of art to inspire everyone to make that extra effort at home to reduce food waste and we’re so thrilled to be able to exhibit these prints in collaboration with OXO so that even more people can enjoy and reflect on the series. The artists we’re working with are all incredibly talented and have used their creative skills to spread an amazing message: that together, by saving food every day, we can keep making a real difference to the future of our planet.”

OXO Tower Restaurant, Bar and Brasserie Executive Chef Jeremy Bloor commented on the Exhibition launch: since 2019 we have measured, tracked and reduced our restaurant food waste. We work with To Good to Go to reduce unnecessary food going to the bin, but during the lockdown we really saw the extent of food surplus outside the restaurant. When we started cooking meals in our community kitchen with donated food from the London Food Alliance (City Harvest, The Felix Project and Fare Share) we got tons of surplus so we want to engage our guests in this journey to fix the problem and these images could provide a great talking point.

All 14 prints will be available to view at OXO Tower’s pop-up exhibition in the 8th Floor viewing gallery from today until the end of August.
