People, Planet, and Purpose: Inside Denise’s Role at London’s The Wesley Hotel
At the heart of London’s The Wesley Hotels, based in Euston and Camden, is a hospitality team made up of passionate individuals committed to delivering something more than just a comfortable stay.
One of those individuals is Denise, the Deputy Hotel Manager, whose journey with The Wesley is one of growth, purpose, and people-first leadership.
We sat down with Denise to find out how her journey began at The Wesley, what she loves most about her role, and to find out more about some of the hotel’s impressive achievements.
What does your role entail each day?
I oversee the hotel’s day-to-day operations and work closely with the wider team to make sure our guests enjoy a warm, seamless, and memorable experience, something that is very important to us.
Has your role changed since being at The Wesley? If so, did you receive any support/training opportunities to help you progress in your career?
Yes, my role has definitely grown since I first joined The Wesley. I’ve been very fortunate to receive great support and training along the way, including leadership development and mentorship opportunities which has helped me build confidence and step into new responsibilities.
Without these additional training and growth opportunities on behalf of the hotel, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
What draws you most to the hospitality industry?
What I love most about hospitality is how dynamic and people-focused it is. No two days are ever the same, and I genuinely enjoy creating special moments for our guests and building lasting relationships with both our internal team and the wider community.
Are there any particular moments or milestones that stand out to you in your journey?
I’m personally really proud of The Wesley’s commitment to sustainability, resulting in many award wins over the years including a Green Key Accreditation, Green Tourism Gold Award, Investors In People (IIP) Award, and the launch of our Eco Smart initiative (which we were awarded gold!), which made a real difference in reducing our environmental impact.
Sustainability is so much more than just a buzzword for the hotel. Their innovative eco-friendly programs and initiatives are designed to protect their surroundings, minimise their carbon footprint and promote green tourism.
Another highlight during my career at The Wesley has been watching other team members grow and thrive through our training and mentoring; it’s incredibly fulfilling to be part of that journey.
What do you think makes The Wesley different from other hotels, and how do you contribute to that uniqueness?
As well as its authentic dedication to making travel more sustainable, The Wesley has a truly personal touch that sets it apart. It’s all about warmth, attention to detail, and genuine care for our guests. In my role, I make sure every guest feels welcomed and valued, whether it’s through a personalised check-in or offering thoughtful recommendations to enhance their stay.
Where do you see yourself in the future with The Wesley?
I’m excited about what the future holds for me at the hotel. I see myself continuing to grow here and hopefully stepping into a more senior leadership role. As The Wesley constantly evolves, I’m proud to be part of that ever-evolving journey.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the hospitality industry?
Stay curious, be adaptable, and never stop learning. Passion and a positive attitude go a long way, but also be sure to build strong connections with your team and guests, and always aim to deliver service that goes above and beyond.
Denise commented, “My time at The Wesley has been an incredible journey, one full of growth, support, and unforgettable moments. I’m proud to be part of a team that’s so dedicated to both its people and the planet, and I’m excited for more fantastic achievements and growth opportunities.”
The Wesley operates across two Central London hotels; The Wesley Euston is a 100-room hotel situated just steps from Euston Station, complete with a restaurant/ kitchen and bar, meeting rooms and spaces, as well as a new gym. The Wesley Camden is a 38-room boutique hotel located within the Camden Methodist Church building following a £11 million conversion of the old Camden Town Methodist Church.
