Photographer Olga Karlovac returns to London

Photographer Olga Karlovac returns to London at the invitation of the Embassy of Croatia.

Shot in stark black and white, often through windows or in slow motion, her photographs take us on a poetic journey and evoke a sense of mystery not found in glossy travel brochures.

Rather than documenting the exact contours of her subjects, Karlovac captures the essence of a fleeting memory, like that of a dream fading the moment we wake up. Her photographs encourage us to slow down and employ all our senses to smell the rain, hear the footsteps and look beyond the shadows.

At once intimate and universal, her images make us connect with a reality beyond history or borders.

Olga Karlovac lives and works in Zagreb, her work has been exhibited internationally to critical acclaim.

By blurring the lines between reality and poetic interpretation, and working exclusively in black and white, Karlovac’s photography takes on a dreamlike quality.

Her abstracted images invite the viewer to linger, lose track of time as she leads us down winding streets, recognising the familiar within the barely there.
