Pitchside Pads launched at AFC Wimbledon’s new stadium with Galliard Homes

Wimbledon Grounds, the outstanding mixed-use development by Galliard Homes, has seen the triumphant return of football club AFC Wimbledon to the grounds, with the first stadium game kicking off last Tuesday 3rd November. With the new Plough Lane stadium forming the centrepiece of the regeneration masterplan, the development has been brought to life. Providing high quality homes, retail and lifestyle amenities, Wimbledon Grounds is proving very popular with the first residents set to move in shortly.

Following a nail-biting match, the Dons were denied a winning return in their first game back by a last-minute equalizer from Doncaster Rovers’ James Coppinger. The new homes at Wimbledon Grounds enjoy the best seats in the house, and give residents a spectacular view over the pitch even in a time of social distancing regulations. Residential space takes up 30% of the overall development including the stadium, which has a capacity of 9,300 and was designed by Wilson Owens Owens. There is also a new fitness scheme and exceptionally designed modern public realm, transforming the area.

The first residential phase, known as Stadia Three, has been released and comprises 114, one, two and three bedroom apartments across the scheme’s three apartment buildings. Over 80% of Stadia Three is successfully sold, with the first residents moving in across December 2020 and January 2021. Following the high demand for Stadia Three, Galliard Homes is delighted to launch Stadia One to the market offering a further 364 new-build apartments with new show apartments and virtual video tours available.

Galliard Homes have a successful history of building mixed-use developments with a focus on helping first-time buyers and providing excellent public realm. Each property at Wimbledon Grounds is spacious and replete with contemporary interior design including, open-plan living/dining spaces and designer kitchens with high-tech integrated appliances. Flooring throughout will be a mix of oak-effect and carpet. Each property will benefit from access to an outside space, either a private balcony off the living room or access to one of the landscaped mid-level gardens.

Galliard Homes have added a number of incentives, particularly for first-time buyers. After the government’s Stamp Duty Holiday ends in March 2021 buyers at Wimbledon Grounds can benefit from an extension until 1st October 2021. In addition, for every three-bed purchased, buyers have the opportunity to work with an experienced interior designer to choose a furniture package and finish their dream home. Finally, every keyworker buyer will receive a new TV and Deliveroo voucher to thank them for their hard work. Many of these homes also benefit from Help-to-Buy.

Combined with the local community built around the football stadium, the superb location and amenities for residents at Wimbledon Grounds, these measures help to ensure that the development is a destination for young home buyers looking to find the perfect place to live in London.

David Galman, Sales Director at Galliard Homes says: “It’s fantastic to finally welcome the club back to Wimbledon Grounds just as we launch Stadia One. At Galliard Homes we’re passionate about helping young people to get on the property ladder with Help to Buy whilst also enjoying plenty of space. A high specification is also very important to us, and one of the main attractions which have drawn young buyers to the development. The game was nail-biting, a fantastic spectacle which underlines how brilliant it is to have league football here again.”

The AFC Wimbledon story is a remarkable one. The original Wimbledon F.C was disbanded in 2004 but a core group of fans wanted to keep their old colours and remain in south-west London. A new club was formed after trials were held on Wimbledon Common for unattached players. AFC rose rapidly up the leagues and returned to professional football in 2011. Shortly afterwards, plans were revealed to return to the old stadium at Plough Lane. At the time the club were ground-sharing with Kingstonian, a non-league club in Kingston-upon-Thames. Permission was finally granted to build the new ground in December 2015.

Wimbledon as a destination is one of the most well-connected places in London. Wimbledon Grounds is strategically positioned within easy reach of all Wimbledon stations, the District and Northern lines, Earlsfield station and the A3. Host to the annual Wimbledon Tennis Championship, the borough attracts visitors from across the globe and each year it truly comes to life in homage to this centuries old British eventing icon.

Prices at Wimbledon Grounds start at £335,000 for a studio suite, £435,000 for a one bedroom apartment, £540,000 for a two bedroom apartment and £760,000 for a three bedroom apartment.
