PIZZA PILGRIMS BRINGS A SLICE OF NAPLES TO WIMBLEDON THIS AUGUST

Pizza lovers of Wimbledon, rejoice! Pizza Pilgrims is bringing its iconic Neapolitan-style pizzas to the neighbourhood for the very first time, opening on Wimbledon Hill Road on Tuesday, 18th August.

Designed to be a neighbourhood pizzeria as much as a destination, the new opening aims to become a hub for the local community, bringing people together over great pizza, events and shared experiences.

The new pizzeria embraces Pizza Pilgrims’ signature style, taking you straight to Naples, one slice at a time. Inside, diners are immersed in the vibrant sights, sounds and flavours of the city’s historic centre – without leaving the SW19 postcode.

Pizza lovers can sit in the heart of the action on the ground floor, inspired by the bustling, sun-bleached Neapolitan streetscape, where the aroma of freshly baked pizza and the buzz of an open kitchen recreate the energy of a traditional pizzeria.

Alternatively, they can head upstairs to the garden roof terrace, where the interiors evoke the Bay of Naples. The first-floor garden blooms year-round, complete with a pagoda and hand-painted mural, a giant olive tree, scattered lemons, and wisteria cascading across the walls.

With 104 seats indoors and an additional 18 outdoors, the Wimbledon pizzeria will be led by long-time Pilgrim Elena Gentili. It will create 25 new front- and back-of-house roles for the local community.

Founded by brothers James and Thom Elliot, Pizza Pilgrims began with a 4,500km pilgrimage in 2011. Having quit their jobs, the pair travelled from the toe of Italy back to London in a three-wheeled Piaggio Ape, learning the craft of authentic Neapolitan pizza-making along the way. They returned to London in 2012, serving pizzas at the famed Berwick Street Market before opening their first permanent restaurant in Soho the following year.

The Wimbledon menu features Pizza Pilgrims’ signature Neapolitan-style pizzas, crafted with a 72-hour double-fermented dough made fresh daily and the finest Italian ingredients, including DOP (Denominazione di Origine Protetta) produce, reflecting the brand’s deep-rooted connection to Naples. Each pizza is baked at 500°C to create a light, chewy, charred crust – just like in Naples.

Fan favourites include the Margherita, Salsiccia e Friarielli, and sweet-and-salty Double Pepperoni with Spicy Honey, alongside more indulgent creations such as the 8 Cheese and Carbonara, topped with crispy strands of al dente spaghetti.

To mark its Wimbledon debut, Pizza Pilgrims will be dishing out 1,000 free slices from 12pm on Wednesday, 12th August, giving locals an early taste of the neighbourhood’s newest pizzeria.

On Saturday, 15th August, from 12pm to 2pm, it’s family time. Pizza Pilgrims will bring Wimbledon families together for a fun communal pizza feast. Adults will receive a free drink with any kids’ meal, while little ones can take part in pizza-making workshops and face painting, all set in a lively, family-friendly atmosphere inspired by the streets of Naples. On the Wimbledon opening, Founders James and Thom Elliot said: “We’re beyond chuffed to be bringing Pizza Pilgrims to Wimbledon. This idyllic slice of London has been on our hit list for a while, and we’re excited to finally become part of its vibrant community. We can’t wait to welcome locals in, serve up our Neapolitan pizzas and hopefully become a much-loved spot for the area.”
