Post-Pride traffic chaos – don’t get caught out Saturday evening in all-night motorway queues

GUESTS making their way home from the Pride in London 2024 event are being warned they face traffic chaos on key motorway routes out of the capital.

The annual parade takes place on Saturday, 29 June 2024 and will see around 35,000 people marching from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall Place.

With road closures in place for the parade itself, traffic is expected to be worse than normal – with London already Europe’s most congested city.

Now motoring experts from Select Car Leasing have revealed how some of the major motorway routes leading into and out of London have roadworks planned for Saturday evening – potentially putting a downer on the Pride vibe if marchers are making a late getaway.

Graham Conway, Managing Director at Select Car Leasing, explains: “Pride in London is sure to be fantastic event.

“But if you’re driving to London, even if you’re ultimately making your way to the parade via public transport, our advice would be to plan your route to and from the capital well in advance to make sure you get home with a smile on your face.

“National Highways often has scheduled roadworks in place during evenings – and Saturday 29th June is no exception. If you’re planning to set off in your car later in the day, once the parade festivities have ended, you need to be aware of the congestion hot-spots.

“The M25 could be an issue, with diversions in place on the anticlockwise carriageway between junction 15 and 16 near Heathrow Airport from 10pm onwards.

“The M4 westbound could also be particularly problematic, with major structural work and lane closures in place from 9pm around junctions 11 to 12 near Reading, Berks.

“Most of all, make sure you’ve packed your car so that you’re prepared for being stuck in traffic for a lengthy amount of time, should the worst happen. That means plenty of water, some snacks, and something warm to wear.”

M25

There are planned lane closures on the M25 clockwise (Jct 7 to Jct 8) from 10pm onwards, and anticlockwise (Jct 15 to Jct 16) at the same point in time. Diversions via National Highways will be in place.

M23

Lane and link road closures north and southbound at Jct 8 from 10pm onwards.

M3

Southbound carriageway and slip road closures (Jct 4 to Jct 9) for major resurfacing works.

M4

The M4 westbound (Jct 11 – 12) faces lane closures for structural work from 9pm onwards while drivers on the southbound carriageway at Jct 4 will have to battle through National Highways diversions from 10pm onwards.

M40

Pride-goers escaping London via the M40 northbound face traffic from 10pm onwards. The road affected is the northbound link road to the M25 anticlockwise, where there will be closures in place.
