Probation Service is hiring new trainee probation officers in London

HM Prisons and Probation Service has committed to recruiting at least 1,000 new trainee probation officers across the country by the end of March
2025*, and now it’s looking to train new recruits in London.

On
Monday 12th August, the trainee probation officer programme, also known as the Professional Qualification in Probation (PQiP), will open for applications in London. There are more than 130 places available and HMPPS is encouraging graduates
and non-graduates to apply.

With A Level Results Day just around the corner (17th August) – a time where careers are front of mind for students and their parents – we thought
this could be of interest to your readers.

About the trainee probation officer programme:

·
Prospective candidates only need up to a level 3 qualification to apply; this is the
first year where a degree has not required.

·
All candidates earn a salary from day one, making it a great option for adults seeking a career change.

·
All aspiring probation officers must complete the programme.

·
The course combines academic theory, knowledge assessments and practical learning, to provide the best possible preparation
for life as a probation officer. This includes spending time in a working probation office and study time, as well as other probation work settings – such as a prison or court.

·
Training takes 15, 21 or 27 months to complete depending on your current qualifications.

·
When you complete the programme, you’ll gain a level 6 Professional Qualification in Probation. This is a combination
of a level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice and a Diploma of Community Justice.

·
Once complete, qualified probation officers can apply for full-time roles with annual salaries starting from £35k depending
on location.
