Pushing Through Mental Obstacles & Forging a Bright Future
Mental health is a critical issue that has only recently begun to gain traction. According to the World Health Organization, depression is one of the primary causes of disability worldwide, whereas suicide is the second leading cause of death among people aged 15-29. Individuals suffering from mental health conditions often die prematurely due to several preventable physical conditions. People suffering from mental health issues often don’t receive the care they need to succeed in life. Despite progress in some countries, such individuals often experience severe discrimination and stigma and are left to suffer alone.
Despite the tough circumstances surrounding their material existence, some courageous individuals push through to make themselves heard in this chaos-ridden world. Their goal is to leverage their unique skills and achieve success through them. Some notable celebrities dealing with mental health issues are Demi Lovato (bipolar disorder), Donny Osmond (social anxiety disorder), and Michael Phelps (ADHD). These highly successful individuals inspire an entire generation of people to believe in themselves and push forward in life to acquire their goals. Following their lead is emerging singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer Isabelle Tizane Miller.
Isabelle Tizane Miller, professionally referred to as Tizane, was born in London, England, on July 3rd, 2001. From a very early age, Tizane was diagnosed with acute anxiety. Her mental condition severely hampered her ability to perform well academically. At times, she was even unable to step out of her house for days. However, young Tizane was a brave spirit. She did not want her mental health issues to define her as a person and soon discovered the perfect channel to carve out her destiny.
From early on, Tizane had inclined towards music. That was something she inherited from her mother. Tizane’s mother had a beautiful voice and played across several pubs and clubs in her band back in her time. She always encouraged Tizane and her siblings to learn the piano and other musical instruments. Tizane loved practicing the piano and expressing her emotions through it. Although anxiety issues blighted her childhood, that also provided her with ample time to write music and play instruments. By the time she turned 16, Tizane was exploring ways to upload her music onto digital platforms.
Since 2018, Tizane has launched several groundbreaking tracks, including “He Took It All Back” and “Dead to Me.” Her most recent album “Cherry” was released in February 2021. Her music carries an ethereal quality and instantly connects with the listener on an emotional level. Tizane’s focus is to write about the affairs of the heart, open to interpretation. Despite her lyrical eloquence, Tizane tends to shy away from explaining her songs or coloring them with a particular brush. For her, all art and creativity should exist exclusively in the eyes of the beholder.
Like almost every other artist, Tizane has also sought inspiration from a wide variety of singers, including Stevie Nicks, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish. She has also been described as “Kate Bush meets Billie Eilish” by many of her admirers. Though Tizane does not view herself in the same light, being compared to such notable artists has instilled in her immense confidence. In her own words:
“They’re both extraordinary talents, and I’d much rather be compared to them than many others who shan’t be mentioned. I think I’d prefer Stevie Nicks meets Ariana Grande. Who knows?”
Music is the defining feature of Tizane’s existence. It comes before everything in her life, including wealth and romance. Even during her sleep, she seems to exist in the music mode, and that is how she came up with many of her stellar tracks. Her favorite song, “Cherry,” was conceived in a dream.
Tizane’s journey in the music industry has not been without challenges. Often, she has struggled against the idea of fitting her music in a box. She believes that her music blends several characteristics and can’t be defined by a few cliched words. As she continues to achieve new milestones, Tizane hopes for the day when the industry will be more accepting of unrepresented artists who do not meet a specific criterion of originality. She also wants young, aspiring artists to receive more meaningful opportunities to define their skills further and elevate their careers.
