Lines crossed, textures emerged and shapes bloomed as Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School proudly celebrated The Big Draw Festival. Marking its 25th anniversary, this year’s theme ‘Drawn Together’ inspired a vibrant three-day exploration of drawing as a shared language for learning, creativity, and connection.
At the heart of the celebration was an immersive art installation that transformed the school hall into a dynamic space for collaborative drawing and open dialogue. Its dreamlike structures invited curiosity and interpretation, encouraging children to observe closely, imagine boldly and express themselves confidently using a rich variety of media. A layered soundscape of natural and ambient audio deepened the experience, helping pupils turn mood, movement and sensation into expressive mark-making.
Ravenscourt Park Prep School also welcomed local primary schools to take part in the installation experience. Across the three days, more than 670 children from different settingsgathered to draw side by side, exchanging ideas, exploring techniques and discovering new ways to communicate visually as they embraced the challenge of the vast white paper.
To extend the spirit of ‘Drawn Together’ even further, the installation opened one evening for a relaxed community drawing event, inviting families, neighbours and friends to contribute and strengthen the school’s creative ties with the wider community.
Reflecting on the week, Andra Raduca, Head of Art at Ravenscourt Park Prep School, said: “Drawing has the power to connect us. It helps children think deeply, make sense of what they see and find common ground through shared curiosity. When we draw, we build a better understanding of who we are.”
