ReLondon launches new Circular Materials Innovation Awards

ReLondon is making these new Circular Materials Innovation Awards available as part of its business support programme, designed to catalyse circular innovation in London. They will provide funding to five London-based start-ups and small businesses that are developing innovative, commercially viable materials that contribute to the shift to a circular economy, helping the businesses take the next step in their growth.

Made possible thanks to the Mayor of London and UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the Circular Materials Innovation Awards aim to show how new, circular materials – whether made from waste or designed to work with nature – can attract investment and build global competitiveness while addressing climate change by minimising waste and maximising resource efficiency.

ReLondon is looking for solutions that translate scientific innovation into valuable, exportable capabilities and products across a range of applications – including textiles, plastics and packaging, construction and more.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to pitch to an expert panel made up of representatives from local government, industry bodies, investors and technical institutions, who will then allocate five grant awards as follows:

1 x Gold award (£20,000)
2 x Silver award (£12,000)
2 x Bronze award (£5,000)

Award winners will then be free to spend the money flexibly to support their own growth milestones.

Lamia Sbiti, Business Transformation Manager at ReLondon said:
“London is full of brilliant, creative circular innovators who are rethinking how materials can be made and used. Some businesses are transforming waste streams into valuable new resources, others are developing radical materials designed to unlock reuse, remanufacture or repair – and all of them are strengthening industry resilience and London’s competitiveness on the global stage. We’re excited to shine a light on the potential these solutions have to shape a low carbon and economically vibrant future.”
