REVEALED: Netflix Originals disrupt top 10 favourite Christmas movie list

AS THE UK’s top 10 favourite Christmas films for 2018 are revealed, streaming sites are disrupting tradition, with the majority of Brits shunning DVDs in favour of streaming sites and two Netflix Originals in the top five this year. While Christmas movies are not for everyone, and many film fans may prefer to check out the best space movies to watch, the incoming influence from streaming services may push previous festive favorites out of the top-ranking positions.
According to a survey of 1,024 UK adults, carried out by LaptopsDirect.co.uk, an incredible 73% of those watching Christmas movies this year said that they’ll be getting their festive fix from streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. Some people are even download popcorn time, a computer streaming app to watch movies and TV this Christmas. However, the ones who prefer to watch it the old-fashioned way might still rely on torrent sites to get their fix of the festive movies and other large files that they might feel useful in their day-to-day lives. Though, with the advent of OTT platforms, the usage of torrents to download movies has significantly reduced. Not finding your favorite Christmas movies on Netflix or Prime could be a hassle, but movie buffs could always fall back on torrent sites that allow them to download files through a peer-to-peer (P2P) network. With online blogs and articles, they could have torrenting explained in a simple manner, making it easier for their usage in the future. As an alternative, VPNs can assist film enthusiasts in unblocking Netflix and other streaming services, which might enable them to watch movies that broadcast outside of their country. They can watch Christmas movies on Netflix by changing the server location to a country that is not geo-blocked with the help of VPNs that work with Netflix or other streaming providers.
This is compared to only 27% who’ll be favouring the traditional method of heading out to buy a DVD before snuggling up on the sofa to watch it.
The survey also reveals the UK’s top ten favourite Christmas movies, with traditional classic, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ remaining the nations favourite, with 71% of people saying this.
This is closely followed by ‘Elf’ with 68%. Completing the top three is Netflix Original, ‘A Christmas Prince’, which 55% of those surveyed said was their favourite Christmas movie.
The majority (64%) of people said they traditionally watch their first Christmas movie of the year when putting up their tree, as this is when the festive season begins for them.
This is revealed alongside the news that an incredible 78% of UK residents will watch at least one Christmas movie over the festive period, with the average person watching six Christmas movies this year.
