Searches for ‘winter holidays 2022’ have increased by +514% in the last 12 months1 and with the holidays just around the corner, Comparethemarket reveals the first edition of its Winter Family Staycation Index. The index highlights the best winter locations for family breaks based on eight different factors including the cost of a meal, the number of shopping centres, and the amount of Christmas markets.

Windsor and Maidenhead is crowned as the top winter family staycation due to the museums, entertainment opportunities and healthcare facilities. Families love the area because there’s so much to do with kids, such as visiting Windsor Castle, Legoland, and the Windsor and Royal Borough Museum.

While in second place is Cornwall with the highest number of Christmas markets (12) out of the top 10 locations. Making it an ideal winter staycation for families who are looking for festive activities.
