REVIEW: The Nethway Hotel, Torque “A charming cosy wedding hotel with a bay view to die for”

by Matthew Martino | REVIEW

A gruesome five minute walk from Torquay Station leads to The Nethway Hotel, the final 200-metre uphill walk proved challenging for me due to my rather generous fuller figure.

Set on a very quiet Falkland Road which features other B&B’s and hotels there is nothing basic about this picturesque wedding hotel. Travelling during the pandemic is a headache enough but upon arrival I felt at home.

Check In: I was met by a charming gentleman who introduced himself as Gary, due to my early arrival I coudnt check in as yet but he offered me to leave my bags and return after 3pm.

During check-in on my return I was greeted by owner Julie Way who offered me hand sanitiser and then showed me around the rather picturesque hotel

The Room: I was in Room 26 – A balcony room offering a bay view and as a smoker this meant I could pop into the balcony whenever I needed.

A rather generous bed awaited me with 4 clean towels at the top, the room also featured a heater, extra bedding and some light amenities. Now the room lacked a bath only having a shower however this gave more space for the room and balcony.

Whilst enjoying a quick glass of wine on the terrace I reminisced about the walk up the stairs as the hotel sadly doesn’t have a lift but don’t be disheartened it makes up for this in other ways.

Breakfast: My room booking came with breakfast which was served at 9am on the terrace – Julie with a smile approached me and proceeded to take my order and naturally a full English was needed to fuel me for the day.

The terrace that over looks the garden and pool area also provided limited bay and sea views which only enhanced my dining experience.

This boutique hotel is more than just a wedding venue as I came to learn they have a rather generous swimming pool area which they rent out to non-residents too and as the UK edges out of lockdown they are launching a BBQ event on the 2nd of May which has already proved a hit with locals.

My verdict: 4/5
A lovely charming and cosy hotel with all the essentials and a bay view to die for and an amazing service.
