The Royal Opera House presents its seventh week of free online broadcasts, musical masterclasses and cultural highlights that audiences can access for free anywhere, anytime.

We are proud to announce the next in our series of free weekly production broadcasts with a Facebook and YouTube premiere of The Royal Ballet’s Anastasia on Friday 15 May at 7pm. Inspired by the true story of Anna Anderson who believed she was the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II, Kenneth MacMillan’s 1971 work for the Company features the music of Tchaikovsky and Bohuslav Martinů.

On Thursday 7 May, audiences will have the chance to go behind the scenes of our arts forms, as we hand the reins of the ROH Instagram account to tenor Joseph Calleja, who stars in Friday’s broadcast of La traviata, and who will answer audience questions via Instagram Stories.

This week’s Create and Learn challenge is inspired by Friday’s Facebook and YouTube premiere of The Winter’s Tale and encourages children and young people to create their own ‘Feet of Flames’ dance. The ROH’s virtual classroom of free home-learning opportunities is open to all, with new activities and challenges added every Friday between now and 17 July.

We are delighted to announce that The Lost Thing, a collaboration between Candoco Dance Company and The Royal Opera will be available to stream on the ROH’s Learning Platform from Friday 8 May. Suitable for ages 6+, The Lost Thing is a musical reimaging of Shaun Tan’s illustrated book featuring a cast of disabled and non-disabled singers, dancers and musicians.

Royal Opera House content is available through our ongoing partnership with the BBC. The Royal Opera’s performances of Gluck’s Orphee et Eurydice (2015), Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra (2018) and Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos (2014) are all currently available on BBC Sounds. Also available on BBC iPlayer is the film Romeo and Juliet: Beyond Words, a creative reimagining of Kenneth MacMillan’s seminal ballet, produced and directed by multiple award-winning Michael Nunn and William Trevitt of BalletBoyz and featuring dancers of The Royal Ballet.
