Royal Greenwich leads in good food table ranking!
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has secured one of the top spots in the latest Good Food for All Londoners report published by London Food Link, part of the food and farming charity Sustain.
The report, which tracks where Londoners have the best access to affordable, healthy and sustainable food, has recognised the Council’s efforts to tackle the cost of living crisis and the impacts of COVID-19. Supported by the Mayor of London, council action on food has been reviewed under two key themes: tackling the root causes of food insecurity, and supporting residents to buy and eat affordable, healthy and climate-friendly food.
Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald, Cabinet Member for Health and Adults’ Social Care said: “Food insecurity is a concern faced by so many across the country, and our borough is no exception. We are proud to be working with local partners, schools and nurseries, to ensure we tackle this issue at its root.
“From keeping up energy levels to providing nutrients and so much more, we recognise that a well-balanced diet is vital in allowing our communities to thrive.”
Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Council said: “We are delighted to be recognised for our work in providing affordable and healthy food for our residents during challenging times. In particular, the great work being done through our free school meals programme.
“Our 93% overall score puts us jointly first with three other Councils out of the 28 who completed the survey. This is an incredible achievement for us and highlights just how hard we are working to ensure we protect our residents.”
