SCHOOLS’ DAY AT NEW SCIENTIST LIVE GOES OFF WITH A BANG!
The first day of the New Scientist Live show went off with a bang on Friday 7th October, with nearly 6,000 students walking through the doors of ExCeL London. The show floor was a hive of excitement and activity with pupils intrigued by what was on offer, astounded by immersive experiences, and engaged with talks on all five stages at the show.
Bang! The Science of Explosions presented by Stefan Gates was hugely popular with a packed arena for this explosive extravaganza, bears were catapulted into the air and spectacular explosions entranced everyone in the audience.

The presentations, features and experiences were specifically tailored for Key Stages 2 (upper), 3 & 4, giving students a unique opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom and bring the world of STEM to life. The show connected students with leading-edge researchers and gave them the knowledge to engage with the scientific, social and ethical challenges that will shape the world of the future.

Miss Carly Riddoch, a teacher at The Pointer School in South-East London brought Year 4 students, said: “The kids have loved the show, once we got here there were so many options! What stands out is the Bang! Show which the children loved! It will be nice to bring the older kids next year!
Lindsay Jarreet, a chaperoning parent from Thomson House School in Richmond attended with Year 4, 5 and 6 children explains: “The show has been absolutely amazing. There’s been so much to do. The kids have been absolutely riveted by all the exhibitions, and there’s never been a dull moment. What stood out to the kids, was the farming exhibition which has been eye opening for London children to see. And then definitely the future of hospitals.”
A proportion of the Schools’ Day tickets were made available for free to schools with a high proportion of disadvantaged students and schools with lower science capital ensuring that science is accessible to the widest possible audience and to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and leaders.
The show is now open to the public for the weekend of 8th and 9th October.
