Serene Sounds: Classical Sound Bath Experience Comes to Wandsworth Arts Fringe

Classical music enthusiasts and seekers of serenity alike are in for a treat as the “Serene Sounds” of the Transposed ensemble come to the National Opera Studio in Wandsworth on June 14th at 19:30. This unique event, hosted by the acclaimed classical Soprano, Eleanor Penfold, who has performed around the world from the Paris Opera to the BBC Proms, alongside the mesmerising playing of concert pianist and chamber musician, Elena Toponogova, promises an immersive fusion of classical music and sound baths, the popular meditative experience where those in attendance relax to the sounds of traditional instruments.

“Serene Sounds” is not just a concert; it’s a transformative experience where attendees will be enveloped in a cocoon of meditative sounds and music, all set within the candlelit hall of the National Opera Studio. Instead of the usual concert hall format, audience members bring their yoga mats, pillows and even eye-masks and settle down around the performers to enjoy the music in a more relaxed setting. The evening will include enchanting melodies from the works of Debussy, Ravel and Strauss.

Soprano Eleanor, inspired by her own experiences attending Sound Baths since 2019, conceived the idea to blend the meditative qualities of traditional sound healing instruments with the emotive power of classical music, creating a new way of experiencing both art forms.

“Lying on a yoga mat close to the performers gives a much more immersive experience than the more formal settings that classical concerts usually take place in”, says Eleanor. “The sounds of the Tibetan singing bowls, Koshi chimes and Tingsha bells are the perfect match for these beautiful songs and take you on a real journey.”

Looking for ways to switch off from the daily news, Pianist Elena recalls when she first started attending sound baths. “I felt very calm and relaxed, often drifting off to sleep during the sessions. When Eleanor told me about her idea of combining the sound bath with classical music, I found it incredibly exciting! For me, it’s a
well-being project, but it’s also an amazing opportunity to experience classical music in a different way.”

Tickets for “Serene Sounds” are priced at £20, with concessions available for £18. Yoga mats will be available to rent for £5 on the door. For exclusive ticket offers and updates, follow Transposed on their social media channels.
