Shadow Financial Secretary James Murray MP says more people are ‘looking to Labour as an alternative’
Shadow Financial Secretary James Murray MP says more people are ‘looking to Labour as an alternative’ because they are ‘fed up’ of a Conservative Government.
Speaking to GB News, Mr Murray said: “These are very strong search results for the Labour Party, and they show that we’re on course for a majority Labour government.
“We’ve been campaigning in recent weeks and months about our plan to tackle a cost-of-living crisis. “And what we’ve seen is gains right across the country, in Middlesbrough, Medway, Plymouth, and in all different parts of the country – showing that we’re making that progress in places we need to win the next general election.
“I think what we’re seeing now is the Conservatives after 13 years in power, that people are just fed up. People want to change, people want to move on from the Conservatives, but people are also looking at Labour and seeing we’ve actually got some policies here which are more than just sort of sticking plasters to get us through the next few weeks or months.”
Highlighting the problems he thinks Rishi Sunak faces he added: “The Conservatives now are absolutely governed by division within their own party. You know, there’s so much effort that goes into just keeping their political party in Parliament. Rishi Sunak can’t do much because he’s so hamstrung by his back benches. And I think that really shows that they are out of energy, out of ideas and can’t do the bold things we need to tackle the challenges we face in the future.
“That’s why our number one mission is to get the economy growing. What we need to do as an opposition is make sure that the manifesto pledges, we take into the next election are right for the times and reflect the economic reality that we’re in. The economy has changed, and the world has changed so much in the last few years.
But we would need to make sure that any pledges we make are fully costed, fully funded long term solutions that we can stick by and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
