SIXES’ BURGER OFFERING BOWLS OVER JUDGES

Sixes, the social cricket activity bar, has emerged as the best kept secret in the burger world by competing in the prestigious National Burger Awards Champion of Champions. As the only social entertainment venue to make the cut, Sixes has surprised and delighted burger aficionados with its unique culinary offering.

The competition, held at Big Penny Social in Walthamstow, featured some of the most notable names in the burger world including two-time winners Bleecker and El Perro Negro. Sixes’ entry, the Mamma-Gu Burger, was a testament to their innovative approach and commitment to quality.

Andy Waugh, Co-Founder of Sixes, brings a wealth of culinary expertise to the table. With a background rooted in fine dining and a passion for innovative cuisine, Andy crafted a burger for the competition that not only pays homage to his Scottish heritage but also pushes the boundaries of traditional burger-making. His dedication to sourcing the finest ingredients and creating memorable dining experiences is evident in every bite of the Mamma-Gu Burger.

“Just like any great sports clubhouse, food is at the heart of the Sixes experience. Competing in this top-notch competition shows how much we love bringing amazing food to our guests, even if some of our wild creations don’t make it to the regular menu. We’re absolutely chuffed to be recognised among such big names,” said Andy Waugh, Co-Founder of Sixes.

“Being the only social entertainment venue on the shortlist is a massive honour. It’s a brilliant chance for us to show off our dedication to serving up exceptional food that pairs perfectly with our unique cricket-themed fun.”

The Mamma-Gu Burger was inspired by a blend of home comforts and gourmet excellence. It featured wild venison from Ardgay Game, butchered by Andy Waugh’s family in Inverness, and 70:30 wagyu beef from Taste of Tradition. The wagyu beef, renowned for its rich, buttery flavour and exceptional tenderness, was sourced from a pioneering era of beef farming in North Yorkshire, creating a melt-in-your-mouth sensation that set it apart on the day. Topped with Mum’s butter onion burger sauce, melted cheese, homemade pickles, and crispy mortadella, this burger delivered a symphony of flavours that distinguished it from the competition.

The panel of judges for the event, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year and brought together 30 previous winners and chefs to compete for the ultimate title, included esteemed industry names such as Sally Abé, Candice Brown, and Jesse Burgess.

With a focus on fun and social interaction, Sixes offers a unique experience for groups to enjoy, play or watch cricket in a relaxed and lively environment. It aims to redefine the way the cricket is enjoyed by opening the sport to the masses.
