Canary Wharf has a new reason to sing as Songbird Restaurant & Bar on Cartier Circle in Wood Wharf opens to non-theatre guests for the very first time, launching a dedicated à la carte offering for lunch and dinner. Expect seasonal British flavours, a thoughtfully composed cocktail list, striking interiors from the designer of The Hoxton, and views across the waterfront.
As Canary Wharf continues to evolve beyond the nine-to-five, its dining scene is thriving with destination restaurants and all-day hospitality giving people more reason to stay long after office hours.
From midday meetings to long dinners over cocktails, the menu is inspired by the British Isles, finished with a little theatre. Striking a balance between comfort and indulgence, the menu opens with signature snacks and starters including crumpets & caviar; devilled eggs with miso mayonnaise & trout roe; braised beef rarebit and cheddar croquettes.
For main course, the pan-roasted cod in an English sparkling wine butter sauce is sure to be a crowd favourite, alongside the wild mushroom pot pie and the Wagyu burger with truffle mayonnaise, finished tableside with freshly shaved truffle*. Desserts lean into nostalgia with a playful twist, featuring the cherry & chocolate mousse and an interactive ‘build-your-own’ sundae experience, served with a generous array of toppings and sauces.
Songbird is elevating the working lunch too: step out of the office and enjoy a selection of standout sandwiches. Highlights include a 5oz dry-aged rump steak sandwich, the Songbird schnitzel, and an indulgent lobster roll.
With the space designed by Rachel Gowridge (other design projects include The Hoxton and Gleneagles Hotel), at the centre of the dining room is an impressive circular bar that commands attention. The cocktail list draws on theatre and technique: The Songbird is the signature, made with gin, elderflower cordial and lemon bitters – light and floral, and ideal for summer. Other hero serves include an Earl Grey Martini, a Yorkshire Negroni using rhubarb, and Smoked Old Fashioned, unveiled from an elegant glass cloche.
The main dining room features curved banquettes set around green marble tables, upholstered in a distinctive swirling pattern that adds texture and movement to the space. Draped walls and a palette of deep green, warm orange and blush pink bring warmth throughout. There’s two private dining spaces, including The Goldcrest Room offering a semi-private setting beneath a Sputnik chandelier and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Canary Wharf and beyond, including towards the O2.
Songbird Restaurant & Bar sits just a short walk from Canary Wharf station, with easy access via the Elizabeth line, Jubilee line and DLR, placing it firmly at the heart of East London’s dining scene.
The restaurant is open Tuesday to Thursday from 12pm to 10:30pm, extending to 11pm on Friday and Saturdays. Sundays see a shorter service from 12pm to 4pm.
