Yesterday, the Mayor of London published new figures that “show London delivering twice as many council homes as the rest of the country combined”.
Responding, leader of the Southwark Liberal Democrats Cllr Victor Chamberlain said:

“The Mayor has started 2024 with yet more disingenuous bragging about housing delivery in London during his tenure. His empty words are no comfort to the hundreds of thousands who are struggling in unaffordable and unsuitable homes, and many with no home at all.

Here in Southwark, the Mayor’s own affordable housing monitor shows it would take 145 years to provide homes for the over 17,500 households currently on the housing waiting list. The latest government stats show Southwark only delivered 66% of the homes needed in the past 3 years, the 7th worst in London.

Only the Liberal Democrats, in Southwark and across London, understand the depth of the housing crisis we face and the urgent action needed to tackle it.”
